Living with Schizophrenia
In this video, I discuss some of my biggest fears about living with schizophrenia. Accepting my diagnosis has not been an easy process, and it is an ongoing one, but talking about my fears and apprehensions has helped me along with self acceptance. There are very real concerns around what living with an illness like schizophrenia entails, and so I hope to discuss some of these fears and concerns and to shed light on them as someone living with the illness.
Living with Schizoaffective Disorder
Daniel is diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and several other mental illnesses. He experiences paranoid delusions in which he believes other are constantly spying on him. Daniel does not know if he will ever be happy again, but for the first time he is reaching out and trying. Daniel's diagnoses include: schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, CPTSD, depression, anxiety disorder and traumatic brain injury.
A Schizoaffective Dad and Supportive Daughter (Hallucinations and Parenthood)
Brandon is diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. His daughter, Kye, helps him understand when he is hallucinating. The two know there is a genetic component to schizophrenia and are trying to reduce Kye’s chance of inheriting this mental disorder. Together they have found that even if life isn’t perfect, it is still worth living.
After Wife's Suicide, Dad Is On A Mission To Help Women With Postpartum Disorders
TODAY’s Craig Melvin spotlights Pittsburgh dad Steven D’Achille, who lost his wife to suicide after her struggle with postpartum psychosis. He is now keeping her legacy alive (with his 6-year-old daughter, Adriana) by opening a treatment center specifically to help women with mental health challenges during and after pregnancy.
